Cod fishing at Georges Bank, MA is a big part of this nation’s early fishing history. Overfishing and habit loss have greatly reduced their numbers, but a respectable winter fishery still remains. Most of the winter fishery is limited to the waters south of Cape Cod, MA and north of Montauk. When the conditions are right the both the anglers and the party boats are shoulder-to-shoulder especially when the cod are tight to a specific piece of bottom. When the conditions are lousy some fishermen head out anyway just to prove how tough they are and how much “cabin fever” motivates them!
